was the next ride in the Sunday Cruise Rides series, and again it was pretty epic. Although we weren’t rolling as hard as we normally do, it was still an awesome ride with tons of excitement throughout the day. My cycling cap goes off to Christian though; somehow he manages to come up with all these awesome locations to ride to. I always wanted to go across Ford Island, but I would’ve never thought to actually ride across the bridge to there. I feel like this was a chance in a lifetime and it was awesome being able to do so with the crew. Ford Island was so peaceful with minimal cars on the road, and the entire island was accessible by bike which made for a pretty chill ride with the group. It’s too bad taking pictures of the harbor is forbidden since it’s a military base, but we were able to shoot pictures anywhere inland. We took some group shots near some old war plane shells next to an old hangar, parts of the road there had these huge puddles from last night’s rain and Casey and James decided to test out some whip skids in the middle of the pond. Things didn’t go so well since the silt on the bottom of the pond made it very slick; both of them ate it and got soaked. Hilarious.
After riding around the island we headed back into town to meet up with some of Christian’s friends who were throwing a BBQ at Ala Moana Beach Park. We had some awesome grindz and got to check out and ride some sick BMX bikes. After hanging out for a couple hours, the fixed crew rolled hard through Waikiki with the BMX group. Slow-paced and chill, something different for a change. Seeing all different kinds of bikes rolling through Waikiki in a pack must’ve looked pretty crazy to all the tourists walking and driving through the strip. I can only but imagine what it’ll feel like to be old and see a hip pack of cyclists rolling hard how we do. ~Good times.
